Ear Stacks.
Over the past 5 years there has been a massive increase in the piercing trend- specifically curated ear piercings. Over the years I have had many piercings done and very few have taken. A second hole at 15, a dainty gold hoop in my cartilage at 16, a belly button piercing at 18, the septum (twice) and countless tries at multiple ear piercings below is what I have learned.

The less attention I payed to my piercings the better they healed. The piercings I was able to ignore and just tended to with the odd splash of saline solution (no scrubbing, poking, wiping, de-crusting) have healed the best.

Surprisingly sleeping can do the most damage to an ear piercing. Our bodies do the most healing when sleeping. If you are agitating your piercing while you sleep your piercing is very unlikely to heal ever. I have lost so many piercings to tossing and turning in my sleep the next piercing I get I will invest in a silly little doughnut pillow like this one .

Doesn’t matter how clean your hands are. No poking, spinning, wiping or crust clearing. This is not a first 6 weeks rule. This is the rule for the first 12 months or beyond! Which brings us to the last point.

I cannot tell you the number of times I have been told I could change a piercings jewelry 8 weeks after being pierced. Come to find out some of the piercing can take upwards of 8 months to heal. When getting pierced choose the jewelry you are happy to live in for a year or more so you don’t risk loosing the piercing to infection by being too eager to change the jewelry.
